The Pursuit of Healthiness:

One of my main pursuits in life is the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. So many times I said to myself: “This is the day I start a healthy lifestyle”, and then within no time, I find myself sitting on my couch eating fried food and chocolate like a careless teenager, and a year goes by without me exercising.

For the last few months, I struggled to lose that 1.5 kg that is keeping me away from my perfect weight (perfect in my opinion of course). And I feel like my super fast metabolism is beginning to become normal now that I am in my early thirties.

I also read all these scary things about being “skinny fat”, meaning even though someone appears skinny on the outside, their body fat percentage can be high. So, even if you look good, your body composition may be wrong.

Anyway, I don’t know what changed in me a couple of weeks ago, but I had enough, and I suddenly started working seriously on achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

So, what does this “being healthy” goal consist of?:

  • Decrease body fat percentage:

Which also means gaining muscle. I don’t want to lose weight, I want to be fit.

  • Exercising regularly:

At least 3 times a week, in order to gain muscle and strengthen my whole body. I am currently doing the Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide, which you can check out on this link: That program is tough, every muscle will be sore for a long time, but it is worth it. I also walk & run on my treadmill.

  • Cooking more:

With as many organic ingredients as possible.

  • Rely on healthy food:

Vegetables (mainly green veggies); fruits (especially those with antioxidants); good fat sources (example: avocado, sweet potatoes); proteins (example: salmon, chicken, quinoa); and food high in fiber (such as lentils).

  • Drink A LOT of water:

Yeah, like all the time, until you hate it & you’re running to the bathroom every half an hour.

  • The cheat meal is a must:

You have to be able to keep enjoying the food you love. You only live once right? So have a cheat meal every once in a while.

  • Stay positive:

A healthy body is nothing without a healthy mind, staying away from stress (if possible) or finding ways to manage it.

Finally, I am no nutritionist or healthy lifestyle expert, but the above seem like the main things to do if you want to live a healthy life. And I will try to post as many healthy recipes as possible and make my best to be the best motivation for myself, and for you as well.

Beef Broccoli Recipe

I came across this Beef Broccoli recipe on Pinterest and I decided to change it a little and add my own touch to it. It came out amazingly delicious!

The recipe is for three people, so you can adjust it according to how many people you will be serving.

Main Ingredients of Beef Broccoli Recipe

Stir fry beef (beef sliced into thin strips), 1 head of broccoli, 1 sliced cup of fresh mushroom, soy sauce, brown sugar, sugar, baking soda, cornstarch, water, vegetable oil, garlic, flour.

Cooking Steps

1- Marinate the meat
Marinate 500g of meat with the below, cover & refrigerate for at least one hour, then proceed to the rest of the recipe:
– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda.
– 1 teaspoon sugar.
– 1 tablespoon cornstarch.
– 1 tablespoon soy sauce.
– 1 tablespoon water.
– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil.

2- Sauce mixture
In a small bowl, stir together the following and set it aside:
– 1/4 cup of soy sauce.
– 1/4 cup of water.
– 4 tablespoons of brown sugar.
– 4 cloves garlic, minced.
– 2 tablespoons flour.

3- Cook the fresh mushroom and set it aside.

4- Cook the Broccoli
Cut the crowns of 1 head of broccoli, boil some water, and put the broccoli in the boiling water for around 6 minutes and set them aside.

5- Cook the Meat
In a large non-stick pan, put the marinated meat and add to it half of the sauce mixture, cook the meat until no longer pink. Then add the broccoli and mushroom and mix everything together. Finally, add the remaining sauce mixture, mix it all a little and serve.

6- Serve it with rice
I personally serve it with egg fried rice, but you can serve it with anything you want (pasta would be a good idea).

I often try to describe the joy of reading a good book, but it cannot be really explained. You get lost in an imaginary world, you visualize characters and places in your head, the way they look, the places they live in. You worry about these characters, love/hate them, and you definitely learn from them. You may think it is like watching a movie, but no, it is totally different, and if you become a reader, you will totally understand why the book is always better then the movie/series.

My favorite reading genres are fiction, historical fiction & classics. And I can’t stand pdf books, because, to me nothing compares with holding a book in your hands and reading it while sipping a cup of coffee in your bed, on the beach, or anywhere, and then adding it proudly to your bookshelf.

Reading can encourage life goals

Sometimes, a book can change your life, it can open your eyes to things you didn’t really think about before, it can help you change your life and become a better person.

Reading can improve mental health

The brain needs exercise, just like any other muscle in the body. And reading provides mental stimulation which keeps the brain active and healthy. It also improves the memory: when you are reading a big book, you have a lot of details to remember, details that affect the flow of the story, and with each new book, you find yourself capable of retaining more and more details because the brain is becoming stronger.

Reading can make you smarter

Your knowledge expands because of all the facts and information that you gather. Your vocabulary becomes richer because you are exposed to a lot of new words that you do not encounter in daily conversations or tv shows. Also, your focus, concentration, and analytical skills improve.

Reading can reduce stress

Even if for just a little while, when you are reading a book, you will forget about your own problems and get immersed in a different world. And sometimes, within the pages of a good book, you will get enlightened, and then try to solve your issues and reduce the stress that you live in.

Bookstores are my happy place, I can get lost there for hours if I don’t know what I am really searching for. And in Dubai, Kinokuniya is where you’ll find what you want.

I often find myself in a bookstore not knowing what to purchase, I do not like to pick up just any book and encounter the chance of being disappointed in it. That’s why I spend some time online, reading reviews and looking for things like “the 100 best books” or the “top 10 books of 2015”.
And that’s how I came across, which is the world’s largest site for readers and book recommendations. You create a profile, add the books you’ve read, and you get recommendations. You can also browse around and put books on the “to-read” list.

I heard about Karma Kafe many years ago, but I didn’t have a chance to go there until recently. Its location is perfect, in Souk al Bahar Dubai Mall, overlooking the amazing fountains.
It is a chic and stylish place, where you can have a relaxed dining experience, or just sit and have a drink in their bar & lounge while nibbling on delicious Asian bites.

Chicken and Potato Recipe

Few words about my journey to a healthy lifestyle and a simple chicken potato dish:

For the past two years, I have been doing my best to eat healthy, not in order to lose weight, but because I want to become fit and add a bit of definition to my body. So, exercising and eating healthy will make me accomplish that. Also, focusing on natural sources of protein & good carbs is very important to achieve a fit body, and this chicken & potato dish is full of health benefits.

Through my blog, I will be introducing you to a lot of healthy/fast meals that are simple to make. There is nothing really special about these dishes, and I am just here to maybe inspire you and give you ideas. And this is one of those simple chicken & potato dishes that you can make when you want a healthy recipe that is full of flavor:

Main Ingredients

Chicken breasts, potatoes, fresh mushrooms, fresh coriander, crushed garlic cloves, fresh lemon juice, your choice of spices, olive oil.

Cooking Steps

1- Cut the chicken and marinate it with olive oil, salt, pepper, chili powder, dried coriander, hot sauce (or you can marinate it in anything you want). Then cook it in a non-stick pan without adding any extra oil because it is already marinated in oil.

2- Cut the potatoes and cook them in a bit if olive oil, salt & pepper and leave them in a hot oven in until they are done.

3- Saute the mushroom.

4- Chop fresh coriander, crush few garlic cloves and cook these two together with a bit of olive oil. Once it is done, add a couple of tablespoons of lemon juice and salt to taste.

5- Mix the chicken, potatoes, mushroom, coriander garlic mix together.

You can eat it by itself or with any side dish you like.

I love the fact that sneakers are now the latest fashion trend and must have, instead of just being part of your gym outfit. This trend has taken over the fashion world and even top luxury brands like Chanel created their own line.

My Favorite Sneakers

In my opinion, the best sneakers brands are those who have been doing it for a long time, such as Nike, Adidas, and New Balance. I also like many other brands which have been making good efforts to come up with appealing and well-designed sneakers.

The Air Max, Roshe, Stan Smith, Superstar, and Yeezy are my personal favorites as they are very stylish and comfortable.

For a while now I have been trying to get my hands on a few sneakers which I am totally obsessed with, you know, the ones that get sold out in a heartbeat. And one of these sneakers is the “Nike Air Max Thea Premium Desert Camo”.

Ever since I saw it, I got obsessed! I literally searched the whole world wide web hoping to find it. But, unfortunately, it was sold out everywhere.

So, I put myself on the waiting list of, and they sent me an email after about a month telling me that they have reserved my size for 24 hours. And of course, as soon as I saw the email, I immediately ordered it.

This Nike Air Max is just perfect, the neutral color goes with almost everything, and you can easily incorporate it with any outfit (skirt, shorts, jeans, dress etc.)

My obsession with coconut oil began when I was looking for ways to naturally whiten my teeth. But it turned out that it has benefits that go far beyond just that.

So after researching quite a bit about it, I went online and ordered a couple of jars of Organic Virgin Coconut Oil.

Below are the ways in which I have been using it:

Oil Pulling

Yes, it is the latest trend out there, but it is more than just a trend.

 “Oil pulling, also known as “Kavala” or “Gundusha,” is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth on an empty stomach for around 15-20 minutes. This action supposedly draws out toxins in your body, primarily to improve oral health but also to improve your overall health”.

Be careful not to swallow the oil during the process, because you’ll be swallowing all the toxins and bacteria. After finishing, spit out the oil in the trash and not in the sink.

I personally oil pull with a teaspoon of coconut oil every morning on an empty stomach for exactly 15 minutes. Some people use organic sesame oil, which is supposed to be just as good, if not better.

Reported Benefits of Oil Pulling:

– promotes oral hygiene (whiter teeth, Cavity and gingivitis prevention, better breath, stronger teeth and gums)
– detoxes the body
– reduces headaches/migraines
– improves skin
The list in long and some claim it can also help cure some diseases!

Create a Whitening Toothpaste Using Coconut Oil

I Mix a teaspoon of bicarbonate soda with a bit of coconut oil (just enough to make a paste), and I brush my teeth with it for 2 minutes two times a week. I brush with regular toothpaste afterwards.

I used to mix bicarbonate soda with fresh lemon juice and brush with the mix to whiten my teeth, but this mix is stronger and can weaken the enamel.

Coconut Oil Hair Mask

I live in Dubai, and almost everybody here suffers from dry skin and hair due to the hot weather. Regular store bought conditioners and masks will surely help, put I prefer to use an organic product and stay away as much as possible from chemicals.

So, once a week, I apply coconut oil all over my hair and let it sit for 6 or 7 hours, putting it overnight with a hairnet is a good idea to people who can’t do it during the day.

Moisturizing with Coconut Oil

I make sure to moisturize with coconut oil as much as possible, I mostly use it under my eyes, on my hands and sometimes all over my face.

Make sure to try it first on a small patch of skin, to see if you’ll have an allergic reaction or sensitivity to this oil. Some people report breakouts, so you’ll just have to try it and see if it suits your skin.

Overall, it can’t hurt to try natural products, especially coconut oil, because it has no way of harming you (unless you’re allergic) and it is also edible. I am not saying it can or should totally replace your other products, but why not add it to your daily beauty regimen?

Make sure you buy the organic virgin coconut oil and nothing else because otherwise you won’t get the same benefits; and for oil pulling, you’ll have to put it in your mouth, so it better be edible & organic.
